Faithful and Useful

20 In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. 21 Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. 2 Timothy 2:20-21

Sometimes trying to live a life of holiness and purity can be so difficult, especially when you are the only one among your friends or loved ones who seem to be interested in that pursuit. You often feel left out when it comes to activities that inwardly you secretly want to enjoy. Although you say no when you’re invited, deep down you ask yourself the question, “Is it really worth it?” In other words, what are the benefits of being faithful to God anyway? Well, Scripture tells us that, first, you will be an instrument for special purposes, and, second, you will always be prepared (v.21). When it comes to God’s agenda in the world, he will always look for faithful people like you to use. Faithful people are always useful people. Because of your pursuit of holiness rather than wickedness you will be used by God for special purposes. In addition, you will be ready and prepared, whenever the opportunity comes. Opportunities to serve and honor God will always be there, but God may give it to someone else, if you are not ready. He will not necessarily give it to you! So be prepared always by pursuing a lifestyle of holiness and purity. Remember, faithful people are useful to God.
