A Bigger and Better Agenda

Text: Philippians 4:2-3

Thoughts:

The church is growing in many places. Mega churches are exploding everywhere. New strategies for church growth continue to flood the market. Eager pastors experiment on various ways and means to expand their ministries. The result is phenomenal growth. But for all that growth, one thing remains — we still can’t resolve many of our internal problems. We’re still basically immature inside our churches. Proof of this are unresolved conflicts that still destroy so many churches. People can’t seem to get along with each other, and when their values collide, they don’t know how to make peace with each other. Whether due to task-oriented problems (e.g. doctrine, philosophy of ministry, etc.) or people-oriented problems (conflicts, power struggles, factions, etc.) , the results are the same — church splits! How can we resolve this?

The main problem is that we are prone to prioritize our personal agenda rather than God’s agenda. We need to go back to God’s agenda. God’s agenda is bigger and better than our personal agenda. We need to stop focusing on ourselves and our pride. We need to focus on God’s agenda instead. Now is the time to begin.

  1. Tnx sir… nice to hear once again from one of my favorite Filipino prof at ISOT, although thru on line only this time. Again, I’m reminded of the importance of staying focused (or going back if in case sidetracked) on God’s agenda and nothing else. This is real life church and personal need. I thank God for u po.
